Warm up (10 minutes)

Before you hit any weights, remember that your body needs time to warm up. Stretching and jogging in place can get you started, but it’s also important to engage in cardio activities like jumping rope or skipping for five minutes or so. Before you start lifting, find an object that weighs a few pounds (such as a water bottle) and pick it up and down 20 times.

After exercising, it’s essential to cool down so that your heart rate and body temperature can return to normal. This helps ensure you avoid post-exercise soreness and injuries. Cooling down is also a good way of managing workout fatigue—it can prevent you from exercising too long or too vigorously, which can lead to overtraining syndrome.
