Washing the sink

My Daily Routine Home Cleaning Tips and Tricks

You don’t need fancy chemicals or equipment to get your sink clean—you just need a little time and elbow grease. First, soak your sink with hot water for about ten minutes. Then, scrub away any leftover food bits with a steel-wool scouring pad. Rinse off all of your cleaning supplies under warm water, dry thoroughly, and you’re ready to go!

Washing walls

A solution of warm water with a mild soap or detergent, wipe down all surfaces that have grime or other residue to them. If you’re worried about paint damage, test an area first to ensure that there isn’t any damage before doing a large area. A sponge mop can be used on wall surfaces to reach those areas where your hand cannot easily reach.

Washing floors

First, start by cleaning your floors with a damp mop. You can use commercial floor cleaners if you prefer, but vinegar will do just fine. With clean water, spray down your floors in one direction to avoid streaks. Once they’re all wet, sprinkle on some vinegar and scrub with a sponge or rag—repeat as needed until floors are clean. Make sure to cover as much of each surface as possible; you’ll need to move furniture out of the way for best results.

Washing windows (inside)

There’s nothing like a sunny day to bring out dirt on your windows. If you have time, take care of your dirty window panes with a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:2). Spray your windows down, let it sit for 10 minutes then rinse with clean water. Adding essential oils (like tea tree oil) will also help remove any grime or grease that’s building up on your home’s windows.

Pest control tips

Use your daily routine home cleaning tips to do some basic pest control, such as checking for holes that may be allowing mice or insects inside. A thorough exterior cleaning will leave your house less prone to insect infestation. Pests can also be controlled by placing cedar chips in crawl spaces under your house or in an attic. Most of these pests are repelled by peppermint oil, so place peppermint-scented cotton balls throughout your kitchen.
